Melbourne may have been having one of its shittest Summers on record but, for local band Fever Artiste, the season brought a stroke of good fortune. Their accomplished set of tunes caught the attention of producer Scott Horscroft (Little Red, Silverchair) who invited the five-piece to record late last year in sunny Sydney. The result of those sessions is the Miami Girls EP: a positively catchy trio of songs, with exciting guitar melodies, relentlessly tight rhythms, and the distinctive vocals of frontman Joshua De Laurentiis.
A homecoming residency at Ding Dong Lounge, with fellow indie scenesters Loon Lake, ended prematurely when the band's drummer Joel was involved in a bizarre tiling accident. Lamenting over the handy work of that unusually sharp piece of ceramic (the dude had to get hand surgery!) the band spent the downtime busy at work behind closed doors. Of course, as to be expected, a decent chunk of this time was blown drinking beer and throwing darts. The remainder was spent finessing and perfecting their live sound, which was finally showcased when they returned to the scene for a sell-out performance in April.
With new found support from Larry Tyler Management, the Miami Girls EP heralds an exciting newcomer to the scene, and what is sure to be a massive year for Fever Artiste.
